Our Pastor

Our Pastor and His Family

 Pastor Mike Evans

Greetings in the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.  My name is Mike Evans and God has allowed me to be the pastor of Calvary Baptist Church.  I was brought up in a religious but not Christian home.  I have great parents who loved me and many Biblical principles were used in my childhood.  I was saved at Southland Baptist Temple in Paducah, KY when I was nineteen.  I stayed in the religion I was reared in out of ignorance and it took God many years and hard circumstances to help me understand that the pattern of life was not religion but a relationship with God through the true teachings of His word.  In 1987 after twelve years in the Air Force, God called me to preach and off to Crown College went my wife, my daughter Hannah and myself.  Four years later I was off to Brigman Hill Baptist Church in Corinth, MS where I was assistant pastor for one year and pastor for approximately four years.  God then moved me to the Central Baptist Church in Hattiesburg, MS where I was assistant pastor for one year and helped the pastor through the time of his wife’s death with cancer.  I left to get back to pastoring and through the providence of God I am here at Calvary Baptist Church in Flora, IL.  We have had good times and bad times and I expect more of each.  We thank God for the people who have been saved and we are trusting Him to save more.  As a pastor my goal is to help people through this wold by teaching and preaching the Bible.  The word pastor means shepherd and truly God is the shepherd and I want to be his helper.  We have a strong foe in Satan and he is seeking to “steal, kill and destroy” but God wants us to have “life and that more abundantly.”  God has called me to help people find that abundant life.  I am not very good at it, but he knew what I was and He is able “to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think.”  If any good comes out of my ministry I truly must give God the glory.

Thank you and please pray for me
Mike Evans
